Software firm invent compelling way to view a city’s past

History buffs will now be able to travel back in time to see how Berlin’s landscape has changed over the past century, thanks to a fascinating piece of software which overlays historical maps and landmarks with those of the present day on a live Bing Maps platform.

Icelandair lanserer direktefly fra Seattle til Reykjavik

Icelandair har nylig kunngjort at de vil tilby en ny direkterute til og fra Seattle, USA, og Reykjavik, Island, som en del av sommerrutene.

Islands ledende flyselskap, Icelandair, tilbyr fire direktefly hver uke med avgang fra Seattles Seattle-Tacoma internasjonale flyplass (SEA) kl. 16.30 og med ankomst Keflavik internasjonale flyplass kl. 06.45 morgenen etter. Disse flyene har avgang tirsdager, torsdager, lørdager og søndager, og vil korrespondere med København, Oslo, Stockholm og London. Dette gir en opptil 4 timers kortere flytid fra Seattle til Skandinavia, enn det som er mulig gjennom andre europeiske knutepunkter. Hindus disappointed at UK church banning yoga

Hindus are disappointed over a church in United Kingdom (UK) banning yoga in its premises. According to reports, Bridge Methodist Church in Radcliffe, near Manchester (UK), banned an over-50s yoga group which has paid £60 a week for the last about ten years and met there twice a week, fearing its classes could be spiritually confusing.

Group founder member Iris Turner said: This is an insult…we are offended…yoga helped the group’s health. She invited the church minister to take part in a class “to allay her fears”. WHO calls for united action against HIV in Europe

Vienna, 21 July 2010 – Speaking at the XVIII International AIDS Conference in Vienna, WHO experts today drew attention to the glaring disparities between countries in western and eastern Europe in providing access to HIV services for people living with HIV.

Elokuu-ensemble (August Ensemble) from Finland is giving a music concert in Reykjavik, Iceland

Elokuu-ensemble (August Ensemble) is a 10 year old Finnish chamber music orchestra bound together by passion and friendship. The members – Kati Arikoski, Anna-Mari Murdvee, Reetta Kataja, Leena Jaakkola, Mikk Murdvee, Jussi Aalto, Mathias Hortling and Samuli Peltonen – have been highly succesful in several national and international competitions.

The players also conduct their careers in several symphony orchestras as well as leading a professional life as soloists and chamber musicians. Elokuu-ensemble performs regularly round the year within smaller ensembles and gathers at the end of summer in Southern Ostrobothnia, in the town of Seinäjoki, where they organize a chamber music festival called Säveliä Elokuussa (Tunes in August). Concert takes place on 3rd of August in Reykjavik at the Nordic House at 20-00 (8 PM)

Brits Call for 24 Hour Drinking Ban

Since 2005 Brits have been able to drink much later than the traditional 11pm. The aim was to introduce a café culture and reduce crime. Unfortunately however, the binge drinking culture is still prominent and alcohol related crime now tends to happen even later, taking up police resources and causing disturbances in town centres. mingle trend conducted a representative survey to ask Brits if they want to see a ban on 24 hour drinking with pub closing times legislated again.

67% are in favour of the ban whilst only a third of Brits are against restrictions on pub closing times.
