The owner of Lakeside Retail Park’s newest superstore, The Range has admitted that bringing his chain to one of Europe’s biggest retail parks is one of his proudest achievements.

Plymouth-based entrepreneur Chris Dawson will officially open his 46th Range superstore in Thurrock on the 27th August – bringing 150 more jobs to the surrounding area and the home retail superstore will replace the space vacated by Curry’s at Lakeside.

Mr Dawson said: “To get our 46th store here it is really something. The Park is one of the most famous in the country, and it’s a real thrill to know that the people of Thurrock and beyond can buy all their bargains here.”

The colourful entrepreneur, who is tipped by many to replace James Caan on BBC program Dragon’s Den, praised the local authorities who enabled The Range to move into the Retail Park with few hiccups.

Dawson added: “I’ve been trading for over 40 years and although each new store feels like a baby to me, this one because of the importance of the location feels extra special.”

2010 is shaping up to be a very busy year for Chris Dawson and The Range: 5 new stores have opened up across the country since April and five more stores not including Thurrock will open by Christmas.

The new Lakeside superstore will create 150 more jobs in the area ranging from Departmental Managers, Store Managers to Back office and warehouse staff. One new recruit, store manager Peter Izzard, said his team were ready for the opening day.

The first Range superstore was opened in Plymouth in 1989, and has grown continually since then. Nowadays 45 stores stretch across Britain from Truro to Carlisle, offering 60,000 products across 16 departments.

The new store opens at 9am sharp on Friday 27th August. Mr. Dawson asks that there be no queuing before 6am as customers at previous store openings have caused traffic congestion.

Group founder member Iris Turner said: This is an insult…we are offended…yoga helped the group’s health. She invited the church minister to take part in a class “to allay her fears”. Currently this group of about 30, which has members up to 82 years old, is homeless. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that although the church had every right to use its premises as it wanted, but yoga, though founded by Hinduism and whose traces went back to around 2000 BCE, was a world heritage and liberation powerhouse and anyone could enjoy its benefits.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that yoga, referred as “a living fossil”, was a mental and physical discipline. For Patanjali, author of the basic text, the *Yoga Sutra*, yoga was a methodical effort to attain perfection, through the control of the different elements of human nature, physical and psychical.

Rajan Zed pointed out that yoga was the repository of something basic in the human soul and psyche. About 16 million Americans, including many celebrities, were said to practice yoga. Yoga never had any formal organization and yoga practice had been handed down from one guru to the next.

Zed argued that turning this yoga group of older people away from the church resulting in it becoming homeless was simply “un-Christian”. Love and compassion for the helpless was the hallmark of Christian ethics. Jesus Christ clearly told the world to help the helpless, defenseless and downtrodden and love them and he showed the way also. Church authorities should act like a shepherd to this flock as Jesus Himself said that he had sheep from other pastures.

Team Green Britain Bike Week has begun, promoting the importance of adopting a greener and healthier lifestyle. With numerous bike events taking place nationwide mingle trend conducted a representative survey to ask Brits if they would consider riding a bike or walking for everyday transport as opposed to a car in order to protect the environment.

Reassuringly almost a third claimed to already ride a bike or walk on a regular basis and another third said they would consider it. Currently 42% of the younger generation travel green but along with those who feel they are likely to, this figure could soon be well over 50%. A third of those with lower income regularly use green transport. Of those with higher income, 39% said they would not be switching to environmentally friendly transport compared to only a quarter of those with a lower level.

Parents were the least likely to be using green transport for everyday purposes, however, interestingly, they were the most likely to consider a change in this area of their lifestyle with 37% compared to only a quarter of those without children.

The results show that Brits could be well on the way to adopting environmentally friendly and healthier modes of transport. Furthermore, with the interest among parents this could be something which is passed on to future generations to create a greener Britain.
