Optikerkjeden Synsam har i dag 74 brillebutikker spredd utover hele landet. Men Synsam ønsker å styrke seg ytterligere i markedet- blant annet i det sentrale østlandsområdet. Derfor har Synsams eier, det Ikea-eide investeringsselskapet Alipes og Inter Ikea, bladd opp 400 millioner kroner og gitt ordre om oppkjøp av norske optikere. Det kan bety kjøp av enkelte optikerbutikker eller aktører med flere butikker ifølge Synsam-sjef Johan Baklund.

Hver kunde kjøper i dag flere briller hver, det har ført til at optikerbransjen de siste årene har vokst raskere enn noen annen faghandel. Det norske optikermarkedet  omsetter for i underkant av tre milliarder kroner årlig.

Synsam sjefen er ikke bekymret for konkurranse på pris, for det viser seg at norske optikerkunder ikke nødvendigvis alltid velger å kjøpe de billigste brillene. Når det kommer til det å kjøpe briller, solbriller og kontaktlinser er kvalitet og god service minst like viktig som pris, sier Baklund.

Etter at Ikea ble eier har Synsam brukt 15 måneder på å slå sammen de norske og svenske optikerforretningene, samt danske Profil Optik. I tillegg er virksomheten refinansiert. – Nå har eierne frigjort kapital til markedet der de ser størst potensial for vekst. Den forventede konsumveksten i Norge er interessant og er en av faktorene som har vært med i vurderingen. Men det viktigste er at markedet i dag består av mange aktører, sier Baklund

Om noen år tror jeg det vil være noen få store optikerkjeder igjen i det norske optikermarkedet. Synsam skal være en av disse, sier Baklund.
