CC wins Data Centres in Europe Green Grid Award for sustainability 2011

Leading technology integrator SCC has been awarded the Green Grid Award for Sustainability 2011 at the Data Centres in Europe Awards.

Awarded the prestigious prize ahead of a list of nominees that included Colt Data Centre Services, Microsoft and TelecityGroup, SCC emerged ahead of a highly competitive field after judges praised an environmental strategy that combines innovate approaches to carbon reduction with an unrivalled long term vision. The panel highlighted the company’s whole lifecycle approach to its data centre building – which saw an existing structure utilised to create a new facility founded on energy efficiency – and similarly commended the firm’s carbon offsetting initiative, which distributes fuel-efficient cooking stoves to poor African communities. » Read more: CC wins Data Centres in Europe Green Grid Award for sustainability 2011

Island er virkelig en “hot” destinasjon

Med vulkanen Grimsvotn på Island, nå mer en skygge av seg selv, viser Island seg som den ideelle ferie destinasjonen med helt nye geologiske fenomen.

Det har vært stor aktivitet under Vatnajøkull, utbruddet har vart i 3 dager og har produsert mer aske daglig en fjorårets utbrudd på Eyjafjallajøkull gjorde under hele utbruddet. Likevel, utbruddet har gitt mindre forstyrrelser i flytrafikken som er nå tilbake til det normale. Vulkaan op IJsland minder actief: Vluchten van Icelandair gaan door

Geomorfologist Bjorn Oddsson van de University of Iceland, kondigde aan dat de Grimsvotn vulkaan op IJsland duidelijk minder actief is geworden en dat de intensiteit van de vulkaan snel vermindert. Hierdoor verwacht Icelandair dat er geen verdere hinder zal ontstaan van de vulkaanuitbarsting.

IJsland is een vulkanisch eiland dat zijn moderne infrastructuur en nooddiensten heeft afgestemd op de mogelijkheid van vulkaanuitbarstingen. Island fortsetter å lokke til seg turister på tross av vulkanutbrudd

Etter vulkanutbruddet i Eyjafjallajøkull i april 2010, falt antallet besøkende til Island betydelig. På grunn av dette, ble turistkampanjen Inspired by Iceland lansert, med det formålet  å øke det positive bildet av landet, og dermed oppmuntre folk til å besøke Island igjen.

Inspired by Iceland´s viktigste fokus var, og er fortsatt, å vise Island sine mange unike og tiltalende egenskaper gjennom enkeltpersoner som deler sine historier og minner fra landet. Den islandske musikkfestivalen Aldrei for eg sudur (Aldri reiste jeg til sørlandet) blir holdt 22-23 april 2011, på vestfjordene på Island. Festivalen blir vist live stream på www.inspiredbyiceland.com , slik at musikk elskere over hele verden kan følge med og bli en del av en av Islands mest populære musikkfestival.

Aldrei for eg sudur blir holdt i de fantastiske omgivelsene på Isafjordur. Premios Nobel, estadistas, defensores de derechos humanos, y emprendedores se reunirán en el Oslo Freedom Forum 2011

El Oslo Freedom Forum, un foro internacional creado para tratar los temas más importantes de los derechos humanos, anunció hoy la lista de sus conferencistas para este año. La tercera edición de este foro anual, que se llevará a cabo durante el 9, 10 y 11 de mayo, en Oslo, Noruega, reunirá a notables personalidades, como el economista peruano Hernando de Soto, el ex presidente mexicano Vicente Fox, el inversionista de Facebook, Peter Thiel, y la activista iraní y Premio Nobel de la Paz, Shirin Ebadi.

Islandpferde-Festival 2011 in Islands Hauptstadt Reykjavik

Das Islandpferde-Festival soll dieses Jahr zwischen 26. März und 2. April stattfinden, und zwar in verschiedenen Veranstaltungsorten in der Hauptstadt Islands, Reykjavik. Das Festival richtet sich an Pferdefreunde jeden Alters, mit Umzügen, Pferdehof-Besuchen, Filmen, Ausstellungen und vielem mehr.

Das Islandpferd ist eine reinrassige Pferderasse mit Anhängern auf der ganzen Welt. Obwohl die ursprüngliche Rasse gemischt war, ist sie heute wegen ihrer Isolation eine der reinrassigsten Pferderassen der Welt. Die Rasse blieb rein für mehr als tausend Jahre und so gibt es heute nur eine einzige Pferderasse in Island. Pferde sind auch ein fester Bestandteil der isländischen Geschichte, denn die Islandpferde können bis auf die Besiedlung Islands im späten 9. Nightclub knife crime prevented by body-worn devices

Someone was recorded carrying a knife into a Glasgow nightclub between Dec 7 2010 and Jan 3 2011. This was during a police-instigated trial of body-worn video cameras. Door supervisors of fifteen Glasgow nightclubs and some taxi marshals working outside the clubs wore cameras attached to their jackets. Five of the nightclubs involved trialled Reveal Media’s CARMACAM RS2.

The cameras were used to record drunken and unruly patrons of the clubs and monitor potential incidents. When door supervisors saw someone acting suspiciously, they started recording on the body-worn cameras. They managed to take footage of one of the club’s patrons holding a knife. The recording was used to prove the person’s guilt and the incident was dealt with efficiently. The person immediately pleaded guilty and was passively taken away by the police.
