Volcano and aviation conference to be held at Iceland Enterprise Park

A volcano and aviation conference, organised by the Keilir Aviation Academy, is to be held at the Asbru Enterprise Park in Iceland between 12th and 15th September 2010.

The conference, titled as ‘the most important aviation conference in 2010’, is set to address the issues faced from the Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruption and its effects on aviation.

Iceland volcano eruption ash proves great souvenir

Volcanic ash, IcelandA small Icelandic company has been collecting volcanic ash from the Iceland volcano, filtering, drying and bottling it into small resealable glass containers and selling it as souvenirs. The jar can be opened in order to feel the texture and smell the latest work of nature from ‘The Land of Fire and Ice’.

Impressive volcano pictures at Icelandic eruption site

IMG_3335Mr Petursson, pilot with Icelandair has recently published a set of Iceland volcano pictures showing both the first and second volcanic eruption at Eyjafjallajokull. Amongst the pictures taken are aerial shots of the plume during a commercial flight to The Westman Islands, just 30 km away from the volcano before airspace was restricted. Petursson has published these impressive photos on his website, which can be found here.

The volcanic eruption at Eyjafjallajokull is currently around 1/10 of the size it was during the first few days and the ash clouds surrounding the volcano appear to be slowly decreasing. Those mainly affected are farmers in the immediate area located south of the volcano crater.

Iceland volcanoThe volcanic eruption at Eyjafjallajokull is currently around 1/10 of the size it was during the first few days and the ash clouds surrounding the volcano appear to be slowly decreasing. Day-to-day life continues as normal with the vast majority of the country and population being unaffected by the recent volcanic eruption.

Those mainly affected are farmers in the immediate area located just to the south of the volcano crater.
